Statistics Show That There Are More Adult Students

by | May 09, 2022 | 0 comments

There are more adults graduating from college than ever before. But too many of them are graduating with debt.

According to statistics, an increasing number of older persons are seeking higher education. These are people who have been out of school for a long time. They now want to earn a few college credits to better their job performance or gain a degree to change careers. They would have most received financial aid from their parents when they were younger, but that is no longer an option. If you find yourself in this scenario, an adult learning grant may be able to assist you.

A grant is not the same as a loan. Instead, money is distributed to pupils. This money could come from private individuals, businesses, the federal government, or your chosen university or college. Also, examine if your current firm provides any kind of continuing education grants to its employees. If your present employer gives such scholarships, you should be eligible if you plan on continuing with them and taking programs to improve your job performance.

The great thing about grants is that you don’t have to pay them back by definition. Each has its own set of conditions to meet, but don’t fret; grants are available from a variety of sources and for a variety of reasons. Some of the more well-known adult learning awards are listed here.

The US government provides the Pell Grant. You must be a US citizen with a household income of less than $50,000 and be enrolled in a grant-eligible school. For each year you qualify, you might receive anything from $1,000 to $5,500. Your grant will be higher if you have less income. Filling out the free form on the FAFSA website is the simplest method to apply. The application date is usually July 1st of the year in question.

The FSEOG (Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Program) is a grant meant to enhance the Pell Grant. The FSEOG is awarded first to those who get Pell grants, and it ranges from $200 to $4,000 each year. The FSEOG requirements are identical to those for Pell awards.

If you are a woman, you may be eligible for a Janetter Rankin Foundation adult learning grant (get more info at rankinfoundation.org). You must be 35 years old or older, meet income-qualifying standards, attend a participating institution, pursue specific courses of study, and be seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree. If you meet the criteria, you could receive up to $2,000 every year.

Adult learning grants are also available at some schools and universities for older students. Each institution offers different grants, and you must meet the requirements for each grant you apply for. While grants may not be enough to cover the entire cost of your education, they can pile up and make it much more reasonable.
