Filipinos are recognized for being resilient individuals who can bounce back fast from adversity. Despite the calamities, we can still be seen smiling and lending a helping hand, embodying one of the key values of Filipino culture — Bayanihan.

Even if the authorities advised everyone to stay away for their safety, the people’s bayanihan spirit persisted. It emphasized the importance of service and volunteerism.

People volunteer for one reason: we want to help. Volunteers go above and above to give their time, talent, and treasure to make a difference and promote their cause, one person at a time.

When you volunteer, you do it without expecting anything in return. Volunteering may be more useful to you than you realize.

Here are a few reasons why volunteering is beneficial to you.

You can:

1. Improve your abilities or learn something new.

2. Look for more job openings.

3. Make new friends and expand your network.

4. Be a part of a community that shares your values.

5. Boost your self-confidence

6. Find a feeling of direction.

But I’m too preoccupied…

You are a young professional who is almost obsessed with work. You’re a parent with a lot on your plate between housework and child care. You’re a student who is struggling to keep up with class and the never-ending demands.

Is it still possible for you to volunteer despite everything that is going on in your life? Yes.

Despite your busy schedule, it is possible (and rewarding) to incorporate volunteering into your life. A remote volunteer opportunity can be found. Several organizations, particularly during this time of Pandemic, are asking for virtual volunteers.

If you do not have the time, you can still contribute by donating or volunteering your treasure, which allows you to make monetary contributions to charities or organizations of your choice.

Are you ready to begin volunteering?

Begin with Golden Age of Life Society!

If you care about elders, particularly those who are abandoned in various shelters in the Philippines, you can join the Golden Age of Life Society, which organizes outreach activities and fund-raising efforts to meet the everyday needs of these seniors.
